Prayer poem: God prays for the human soul

PLEASE….

Maria Wahba, Arts student at Girls’ College

Please,

Please,

Don’t ever let her cry.

Don’t ever let tears glisten anywhere near her eye.

Please,

Please,

Don’t ever let her again see

The pain she went through over the years.

Please,

Please,

Don’t ever let her again feel

The throb of an aching heart that bleeds with every beat.

Please,

Please,

Don’t ever get her near

Anything her eyes wouldn’t bear to see.

Please,

Please,

Don’t ever let her fear,

What has to come as she lives and what has to disappear.

Please,

Please,

Let her be the love, let her be the key,

That opens every heart and the wounds it conceals,

Because she will have the power to heal.

Please,

Please,

Let her laughter be heard by all foreign ears,

Its sound can silence all painful screams.

Please,

Please,

Let her heart smile, let her hands be here,

They have the softest touch, they wipe away all tears.

Please,

Please,

Let her be the strongest and the smartest through the years,

The world would be happy with her bright light beams.

Please,

Please,

Allow myself to be,

Her friend, her support, and all she ever needs,

Though I may burden her, my love is much too deep.

And if get to choose one thing for the rest of my days to reap,

I’d blindly choose her as my heart skips a beat.

She’s all I ever want to see, to love, to keep.

Watani started as an Egyptian weekly Sunday newspaper published in Cairo. The word Watani is Arabic for “My Homeland”. The paper was founded in 1958 by the prominent Copt Antoun Sidhom (1915 – 1995), who strove for the establishment of a civil, democratic society in Egypt, where all Egyptians would enjoy full citizenship rights regardless of their religious denomination. To this day when Watani is published as a weekly paper and an online news site, the objective remains the same. Those in charge of Watani view this role as a patriotic all-Egyptian vocation. Special attention is given to shedding light on Coptic culture and tradition as authentically Egyptian, this being a topic largely disregarded or little-understood by Egypt’s media. Watani is deeply dedicated to offer its readers high quality, extensive, objective, credible and well-researched media coverage, with special focus on Coptic issues, culture, heritage, and contribution to Egyptian society.
